Ren explained difficult economic concepts in creative ways, by building upon written information with engaging hypothetical and real-world scenarios. This allowed me to gain a thorough understanding of the content, as opposed to rote learning. Moreover, we were provided with constant feedback and assistance on exam preparation, meaning that by the time of the HSC I felt fully prepared and experienced. His thorough knowledge of the syllabus and beyond gives students the opportunity to really impress markers, giving us an advantage compared to the average HSC Economics student. Through this, Ren helped me achieve a 95 exam mark in Economics, contributing to my ATAR of 98.00. This has allowed me to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce and Laws at UNSW, where I am able to continue my study of Business Economics.

Ren’s unique teaching style using diagrams and charts to describe the real-world flow on effects of economic decisions was invaluable and helped us theorise and really understand the concepts, which ensured that if we were given a curveball HSC question we would be able to answer it with relative ease. During Y11, I struggled with particularly the mathematics side of Economics but through Ren’s passion, dedication and teaching I was able to achieve a Band 6 and am now studying a double degree in Law / Politics, Philosophy, Economics at the Australian National University.

Ren has earned himself the reputation of “the teacher you want to have”, the kind of teacher where you’d breathe a sigh of relief when you saw their name on your timetable for the first time. Not only does he offer HSC marking experience and easy-to-understand explanations of complex topics, his fun-loving and engaging style keeps you involved, interested and self-motivated to succeed. I achieved an Economics mark of 91, an ATAR of 97.40 and was accepted into the UNSW Co-op Scholarship. A large part of this I owe to Ren and everything that he did for me throughout highschool.

I went into Economics in Year 11 & 12 without much background knowledge and thought it would be the subject I would struggle with the most. However, Ren’s way of breaking down complex economic relationships combined with real world examples illustrated a concept-based approach around cause and effect that allowed me not only understand these relationships, but to independently investigate these ideas further based upon a foundation of economic understanding. I ended up getting a Band 6 in Economics and found it to be one of the most engaging subjects I studied during the HSC.

Ren's enthusiastic, knowledgeable and efficient teaching style ignited my love of economics. I went from ranking at the bottom of the class in Year 11 (under another teacher) to ranking first in the cohort in Year 12 specifically due to Mr Leung’s highly innovative flowcharts – which ensured many difficult topics clicked into place. It is thanks to Ren's tireless marking, constructive feedback and insistence on closely following current affairs that I achieved a Band 6 in Economics and a 97.95 ATAR. I continue to enjoy Economics courses at UNSW in my Commerce Arts degree, but none of my lecturers and tutors have made Economics as easy (and fun) as Ren.
